 2017 Preview

Victory Christian completed the 2016 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Victory Christian just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region four with a 2-4 region record.

Since 2010, the Victory Christian football program has struggled with a record of 18-51.

Over the past 17 seasons, Victory Christian has not won much with a record of 55-115. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 1A and 337th in the AHSAA.

Mark Sanders leaves the Victory Christian program in much better shape than where he found it. He has accepted the head coaching job at Donoho. He rebuilt the football program back to a respectable level and went 17-14 over three seasons.

Mark Holliday will lead Victory Christian into the 2017 football season.

The Victory Christian Lions will play in Class 1A region four during the 2017 season.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Lions could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region four this season. Victory Christian came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

The Lions open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Sumiton Christian on Friday, August 25 at David Campbell Field. Last year the Sumiton Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in third place in Class 1A region seven. The Eagles lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Pickens County by a score of 56-21.

Victory Christian and Sumiton Christian have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Lions have a 3-3-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2016 with Sumiton Christian winning by a score of 55-28.
